TikTok is introducing a set of new digital well-being features, including an affirmation journal, calming sound generator, and usage-control badges, to help users better manage their mental health and screen habits.

The platform is redesigning its screen time management page with tools aimed at promoting healthier daily routines. Among the additions are an affirmation journal offering over 120 positive prompts to help users set their intentions for the day, a sound generator that plays soothing audio like rain or ocean waves, and a guided breathing exercise module. TikTok is also adding content from creators who focus on mindful usage, parental controls, and feed customization.

As part of its effort to encourage healthier habits, TikTok is launching badges that reward users, especially teens, for staying within usage limits. The company said its research into digital well-being showed that overly strict controls can backfire for young users, so it designed a more balanced, motivational system.

Users can earn badges by avoiding late-night app use, completing meditation activities, setting and respecting daily screen limits, reviewing weekly screen time reports, or inviting friends to participate in well-being missions.

Early testing showed significantly higher engagement with the redesigned well-being hub, with the affirmation journal proving the most popular feature. TikTok will now show prompts linking users to these tools when they browse late at night or exceed their daily screen time.

This update follows a broader industry push to improve teen safety online. In July, TikTok launched enhanced parental controls allowing guardians to block accounts or receive alerts when teens post publicly. Over the past month, platforms like Meta, YouTube, OpenAI, and Discord have also rolled out new safety tools focused on younger users.
