Uber and Avride have officially launched a commercial robotaxi service in Dallas, marking a major milestone in their autonomous vehicle partnership. The all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 fleet, equipped with Avride’s self-driving system, will initially operate in a 9-square-mile area covering downtown Dallas.
Currently, a human safety operator will be present in each vehicle, but Uber plans to roll out fully driverless operations in the future and gradually expand the service area. Riders using UberX, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric may be matched with a robotaxi, with fares remaining the same as standard rides. Users can accept the robotaxi or switch to a human-driven vehicle.
This launch comes a year after Uber’s partnership with Avride, following the deployment of Avride sidewalk delivery robots through Uber Eats in Austin, Dallas, and Jersey City. Avride recently secured $375 million in strategic investments and commercial commitments from Uber and its parent company, Nebius.

Uber aims to operate autonomous vehicles in at least 10 cities by the end of 2026, including Arlington, Dubai, London, Los Angeles, Munich, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The Dallas robotaxi service is expected to expand to hundreds of vehicles in the coming years, with Uber eventually taking over daily fleet operations, including maintenance, charging, and rider support.
