PayPal announced on Tuesday that it will integrate its payment system with OpenAI’s “Instant Checkout” feature, allowing users to complete purchases directly within ChatGPT starting in 2026.

The company is adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), an open-source standard developed by OpenAI, which lets merchants display products inside AI apps. Users will be able to confirm their order, shipping, and payment details, and pay using their PayPal wallet, without leaving ChatGPT.

PayPal says the integration will provide buyer and seller protection and manage card payments through a new payments API. Beginning next year, merchants using PayPal will have their products automatically discoverable on ChatGPT across categories like fashion, beauty, home, and electronics.

Additionally, PayPal is launching an “agentic commerce suite” to help merchants showcase catalogs within AI apps, accept payments, and gain insights into consumer behavior.

This partnership marks PayPal’s latest move in embedding its services within AI platforms. The company previously partnered with Perplexity and adopted Google’s Agent Payments Protocol.

“By partnering with OpenAI and adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol, PayPal will power payments and commerce experiences that help people go from chat to checkout in just a few taps,” said PayPal CEO Alex Chriss.
