Adobe has launched new AI assistants for its Creative Cloud products, including Express and Photoshop, designed to simplify image creation and editing.

Unlike most AI tools that appear in a sidebar, Express introduces a dedicated mode where users can type prompts to generate images or designs, then switch back to standard editing tools. Meanwhile, the new Photoshop assistant, currently in closed beta, lives in the sidebar and can understand layers, automatically select objects, and perform repetitive tasks like background removal or color changes.

Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of generative AI, said the Express assistant was designed for accessibility. “We think this approach of switching between two modes, where you get the best of both worlds, is gonna make the technology both accessible and controllable,” he explained.

Adobe is also testing “Project Moonlight,” an experimental assistant that coordinates across different Adobe apps and links to creators’ social channels to learn their style. Additionally, the company is exploring a ChatGPT integration that would let users create designs in ChatGPT using Adobe Express.

The company also announced expanded AI options in its Creative Cloud apps, including support for third-party generative models like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext. In Premiere Pro, Adobe added an AI-powered object mask tool that helps editors easily identify and apply effects to specific objects or people.
