Paystack has announced that it terminated the employment of its Co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, citing what it described as “significant negative reputational damage.”
In its official statement, seen by Techpoint Africa, the company said the decision followed resurfaced X posts linked to Olubi, which portrayed him negatively and sparked public outrage. Paystack stated that it acted within its contractual rights, followed due process, and has fulfilled all financial obligations owed to him.
The company also emphasized that this termination is separate from an ongoing independent investigation into broader workplace misconduct allegations. That inquiry, led by external law firm Aluko & Oyebode, was commissioned by Paystack’s board earlier in November.
“As a regulated company operating in multiple markets, we have a responsibility to act quickly when conduct has the potential to undermine trust,” Paystack said.
Olubi confirmed in a blog post published on November 23 that he was notified of his termination on November 22, before the investigation was concluded. He stated that he was never granted a meeting, hearing, or the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
He added that he chose to remain silent after his suspension to avoid interfering with the board’s investigation, but now believes that silence “created a vacuum” that allowed misinformation to spread.

Addressing the controversial resurfaced tweets, Olubi maintained that they “do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life,” saying he has always acted in ways that “respect everyone’s dignity and safety.” His X account has since been deactivated.
The resurfaced posts included sexually explicit references involving minors, animals, and professional colleagues, content that triggered widespread condemnation online.
Olubi’s legal team is now reviewing the termination process to determine whether Paystack complied with its internal policies. He has said he will not comment further until that review is complete.
