GoFundMe has rolled out a new feature that lets users buy digital gift cards for family and friends, enabling them to donate to causes they care about this holiday season.
Starting at $5, the cards are available in various designs and themes, including Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Birthdays, and causes such as animal welfare, cancer awareness, and environmental protection.
Unlike traditional cards, these operate through Giving Funds, GoFundMe’s fee-free donor-advised fund (DAF) launched in June. This marks GoFundMe’s first step into DAFs, a model once reserved for wealthy donors due to high contribution minimums and management fees.
When recipients redeem the cards, the amount is deposited into their personal Giving Fund, allowing them to either donate immediately or let the balance grow tax-free for future giving. The buyer receives a tax deduction, while recipients can choose from over 1.4 million nonprofits on the platform, including local food banks, disaster relief groups, and global charities.
GoFundMe says the new gifting option could encourage meaningful giving during the holidays, letting people share the joy of generosity rather than material gifts. It also presents an opportunity for families to discuss the importance of philanthropy with younger generations.

The announcement follows GoFundMe’s 15th anniversary in May, when it revealed it had surpassed $40 billion raised globally and introduced GoFundMe Pro, a platform with AI-driven fundraising tools for nonprofits.
With this latest feature, GoFundMe continues to position itself as a leader in making charitable giving more accessible, personalized, and impactful.
