Meta’s Threads, the social networking app often seen as a rival to X (formerly Twitter), continues its streak of rapid feature releases. Following the introduction of Communities and disappearing “ghost posts”, Threads has now launched new tools aimed at giving users greater control over their interactions and conversation tone.
The highlight of this update is “reply approvals,” a feature that lets users review and approve replies to their posts before they become visible to others. Unlike existing reply limits that restrict responses to followers or mentions, this tool allows open engagement while protecting users from unwanted or disruptive comments.
According to Meta, the goal is to help users “set the tone of the conversation” and maintain positive discussions. The feature strikes a balance between open interaction and user moderation, ensuring that posters, not responders, have the final say on what appears under their posts.
Additionally, Threads has introduced new Activity feed filters, enabling users to more easily view replies from people they follow or those that include mentions. These join other sorting options like Verified, Quotes, and Reposts, helping users navigate their growing engagement more efficiently.
Meta’s third-quarter earnings call revealed that Threads has surpassed 150 million daily active users, up from 100 million in December 2024, and over 400 million monthly active users as of August.
As user activity surges, Meta is also expanding monetization efforts, having rolled out ads globally and preparing to launch video ads soon. Meanwhile, Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that Threads is testing new algorithm controls, allowing users to customize their feeds by adding or removing topics based on their interests.
