Netflix is embracing artificial intelligence as a creative tool rather than a replacement for human talent. In its latest quarterly earnings report, the streaming giant said it is “very well positioned to effectively leverage ongoing advances in AI.”
CEO Ted Sarandos emphasized that AI will serve as a support system for filmmakers and not a substitute for storytelling skills. “AI can give creatives better tools to enhance the overall TV and movie experience, but it doesn’t automatically make you a great storyteller,” he said.
Netflix has already used AI in productions like The Eternaut and Happy Gilmore 2 for visual effects and de-aging characters. The company believes such technology can make production faster and more innovative while keeping creativity at the center.

However, debates continue across Hollywood about the ethical and professional implications of AI in filmmaking. As studios test the boundaries of generative tools, Netflix maintains that its focus is on collaboration between humans and machines, not competition.
