Productivity software giant Atlassian is making its largest acquisition yet to expand its product suite.

The Sydney-based company announced Thursday it has agreed to acquire developer productivity insight platform DX for $1 billion in cash and restricted stock. DX helps enterprises measure engineering team productivity and identify bottlenecks slowing down workflows.

DX, founded five years ago by Abi Noda and Greyson Junggren, came out of stealth in 2022 and has since tripled its customer base annually. Today, it serves more than 350 enterprise customers, including ADP, Adyen, and GitHub, while raising less than $5 million in venture funding.

Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes said the company had been developing its own tool for three years but decided to seek an external option. With 90% of DX’s customers already using Atlassian’s products, the acquisition was a natural fit.

“DX has done an amazing job of understanding the qualitative and quantitative aspects of developer productivity and turning that into actions,” Cannon-Brookes said, highlighting the role of AI in shaping how teams measure effectiveness.

DX will be integrated into Atlassian’s suite of collaboration and project management tools, creating what Noda described as an “end-to-end flywheel” for teams to diagnose and address productivity challenges.

The deal follows Atlassian’s acquisition of AI-browser developer The Browser Company earlier this month, signaling a continued push into AI-driven productivity solutions.
