Zoom just gave its platform a major glow-up at its annual Zoomtopia conference, unveiling a bunch of new AI-powered features to take on rivals like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and productivity startups.
The highlight? An upgraded AI companion that works not just inside Zoom, but also across other meeting apps like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. It can even take notes for in-person meetings, making sure no detail slips through the cracks.
Other cool features include:
- Smarter Notes: Jot down your own quick thoughts during meetings and let AI expand and organize them later (think Granola-style).
- AI Scheduling: Find the perfect time slot for everyone, or even ask AI to free up your schedule by skipping low-priority meetings.
- Cross-Platform Search: Pull info from across Google and Microsoft tools without digging.
- Group AI Assistants: Collaborative prep help, from suggested tasks to agenda items.
Zoom is also finally rolling out photorealistic AI avatars that mirror your expressions, handy when you’re not “camera-ready.” But the company admits there’s a risk of misuse, so IT teams may lock them down.
Coming soon:
- Zoom Clips + AI Avatars to greet participants in waiting rooms.
- AI-powered live translation for smoother global calls.
- AI Writing Assistant for emails and docs.
- Deep Research Tools and custom AI agents via Model Context Protocol (MCP).
On the tech side, Zoom is adding 60fps, higher bit rates for crisper calls, and a new video management hub for organizing meeting recordings and clips.
