Apple revealed its highly anticipated iPhone 17 lineup, marking a significant milestone by bringing premium display technology to its standard model for the first time.

Enhanced Display Takes Center Stage

The iPhone 17 features several notable upgrades over its predecessor, starting with a larger 6.3-inch screen that expands from the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch display. Most significantly, Apple has democratized its ProMotion technology, previously exclusive to Pro models, by including it in the base iPhone 17.

The new display delivers a smooth 120Hz refresh rate while intelligently adjusting between different refresh rates using advanced LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology to optimize battery life. Users can expect exceptional outdoor visibility with the screen’s impressive 3,000-nit peak brightness rating.

Performance and Processing Power

Driving these display enhancements is Apple’s latest 3nm A19 processor, which includes a specialized display engine designed to handle the increased demands of the upgraded screen technology.

Camera System Upgrades

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the improved camera array, headlined by a new 48-megapixel ultrawide lens. The system now supports 2x optical telephoto capabilities and delivers enhanced macro photography performance.

The front-facing camera receives a substantial upgrade with an 18-megapixel square sensor design. According to Apple, this unique sensor shape enables users to capture selfies in various formats without needing to rotate their device. The company also promises improved video stabilization through what it calls the “new selfie center.” Additionally, the front camera now includes Center Stage functionality for video calls.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 17 will launch in five color options: lavender, mist blue, black, white, and sage. Pricing starts at $799 with 256GB of base storage, representing a shift from the iPhone 16’s $699 starting price with 128GB. While the entry-level price has increased, customers receive double the storage capacity, making the cost per gigabyte comparable to the previous generation.

Pre-orders begin this Friday, with general availability starting September 19. The inclusion of ProMotion technology in the base model represents Apple’s continued effort to blur the lines between its standard and Pro offerings, bringing premium features to a broader audience.
