Meta is forming a super PAC to back California candidates supportive of light-touch AI regulation, Politico reports. The group, Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California, will receive tens of millions from Meta, led by VP of public policy Brian Rice, who argues strict rules could stifle innovation and weaken the state’s tech edge.

The move follows a $100 million pledge from Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman to fund a similar pro-AI PAC. Meta has already lobbied against bills like SB-53, which sought AI safety disclosures, and the Kids Online Safety Act. The new PAC positions Meta to play a major role in California’s 2026 elections, including the governor’s race.
