Waymo announced on Wednesday that it will launch a commercial robotaxi service in London in 2026, marking its second international expansion after Tokyo.
The Alphabet-owned company confirmed that its all-electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, powered by self-driving technology, will begin operating on London’s roads in the coming weeks. Initially, the vehicles will include human safety drivers, with plans to move to fully driverless testing before opening the service to the public, a rollout approach similar to its operations in Phoenix and San Francisco.
Waymo has long had ties to the U.K. In 2019, it acquired Latent Logic, a startup from Oxford University specializing in imitation learning for self-driving simulations, and established an engineering hub in Oxford.
The company is partnering with Moove, which already supports its Phoenix operations, to manage fleet logistics, including charging, maintenance, and cleaning. Waymo will continue overseeing the technology, roadside assistance, and rider support.

The 2026 launch will depend on U.K. government approvals for autonomous operations. Meanwhile, Waymo continues expanding across the U.S., with plans to introduce commercial robotaxi services in Miami, Nashville, and Washington D.C.
