Spotify has announced new partnerships with Sony, Universal, Warner, and Merlin to develop “responsible AI” products that prioritize fair pay and copyright protection for artists and songwriters.

The streamer says these tools will let artists decide whether to allow AI to use their work while ensuring compensation for their contributions. The move comes after criticism over AI-generated bands and content flooding the platform.

Spotify recently tightened its AI policies, introducing labeling standards via DDEX to flag AI-created music and crack down on spam uploads. It’s also launching a new AI research lab to build tools that keep artists at the center of the creative process.

“Copyright is essential,” Spotify said in a statement. “If the music industry doesn’t lead now, AI-powered innovation will happen elsewhere, without rights, consent, or compensation.”
