After months of speculation, Samsung has officially launched its Galaxy XR headset, stepping into direct competition with Apple’s Vision Pro.
The new headset runs on Google’s Android XR operating system and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform. Priced at $1,800, it’s almost half the cost of Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro. The Galaxy XR is now available in the U.S. and Korea, boasting up to two hours of general use and two and a half hours of video playback.
Featuring a micro OLED display with 27 million pixels and a resolution of 3,552 x 3,840, the Galaxy XR surpasses Vision Pro’s pixel count, though its 90Hz refresh rate trails Apple’s 120Hz.

At 545 grams, it’s considerably lighter than Vision Pro’s 750–800 grams, with Samsung emphasizing comfort and ergonomic design for daily use.
The headset includes six world-facing tracking cameras, four eye-tracking cameras, and two high-resolution pass-through cameras. It supports Google Maps, YouTube, Circle to Search, and Google Photos, all enhanced for immersive XR experiences with Gemini AI integration.
Users can multitask across multiple apps, stream 4K content, and convert 2D images to 3D. Early buyers get an Explorer Pack with free Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, and Play Pass subscriptions, plus trials of YouTube TV and NBA League Pass.
The release comes just after Apple introduced its latest Vision Pro upgrade, powered by the M5 chip for improved rendering and battery life.
