Linktree, the popular link-in-bio service used by creators and businesses worldwide, has been inaccessible in India for several days, and no one seems to know why.

Users first noticed outages last week. At one point, the site displayed a message hinting it had been blocked by the Indian government, but this was later replaced by a generic SSL error. The Linktree app is also down across major networks, according to The Hindu.

India is Linktree’s fifth-largest market, accounting for 7.3 million visits in July (3.5% of global traffic), per Similarweb. The U.S. remains its biggest audience, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, and the U.K.

CEO Alex Zaccaria said Linktree is still investigating the disruption but did not confirm whether Indian authorities issued any takedown order. The IT and telecom ministries have not responded to media queries.

Founded in 2016, the Australian startup hit unicorn status in 2022 and surpassed 50 million users in 2024.
