Google announced Thursday that it’s officially rolling out Gemini AI in Chrome to all Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S., after previously restricting it to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
With Gemini built directly into Chrome, U.S. users with English set as their language can now click the Gemini icon in the top-right corner of the browser to clarify information on any web page. For example, you could ask Gemini to turn a banana bread recipe into a gluten-free version.
Gemini can also now work across multiple tabs. Planning a trip? Gemini can compare your flights, hotels, and activities. Shopping for a mattress? It can summarize reviews across multiple sites. Soon, Gemini will even be able to retrieve sites you visited earlier, making it easier to find that “walnut desk” you saw last week without digging through your history.
Google says Gemini will also get agentic capabilities, letting it complete tasks like booking a haircut or ordering groceries online, with you just approving the checkout. These features are rolling out in the coming months.

In addition, Google is:
- Bringing AI Mode search into the Chrome address bar, so you can ask detailed, follow-up questions like, “I’m a side sleeper with back pain, make me a mattress comparison table.”
- Launching deeper Gemini integration with apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps.
- Using Gemini Nano to spot scams like fake virus pop-ups or phishing giveaways.
- Rolling out automatic password resets on sites like Spotify, Duolingo, and H&M when Chrome detects a breach.
Google says these updates aim to make Chrome more intelligent, safe, and personalized, with AI Mode hitting U.S. users later this month before expanding worldwide.
