Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has appointed Anthony Armstrong, a former Morgan Stanley banker, as its new chief financial officer (CFO), according to a report by the Financial Times.

Armstrong, who previously advised Musk during the Twitter acquisition, will now oversee the financial operations of both xAI and X, which were merged earlier in April. The report notes that Armstrong had been working with xAI for several weeks before officially stepping into the role.
The appointment comes after a wave of leadership changes at the company. xAI had been without a CFO since Mike Liberatore’s departure in July. Other recent exits include Robert Keele, the firm’s general counsel, who left in August, as well as senior lawyer Raghu Rao and co-founder Igor Babuschkin, who left to start a venture capital firm focused on AI safety. Linda Yaccarino, the former CEO of X, also resigned in July.
Armstrong will take over from Mahmoud Reza Banki, X’s current CFO, who is leaving the company, according to the report.
xAI has yet to issue an official comment regarding the new appointment.
