Meta announced on Monday that it is introducing an AI assistant to Facebook Dating, marking its latest push to integrate artificial intelligence into its products.

The chatbot is designed to help users find matches that better align with their preferences. For example, a user could ask the AI to find “a Brooklyn girl in tech” or request suggestions for refining their dating profile.

To reduce the “swipe fatigue” common in dating apps, Meta is also launching a new feature called Meet Cute, which provides users with a weekly “surprise match” selected by its algorithm.

Meta says Facebook Dating has seen 10% year-over-year growth among adults ages 18 to 29, with hundreds of thousands of new profiles created each month in that demographic. Still, the platform remains relatively small compared to rivals, Tinder’s 50 million daily active users and Hinge’s 10 million daily active users.

AI has become a core part of modern dating apps. Match Group, which owns Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, partnered with OpenAI last year, committing more than $20 million toward AI integration. This has already led to features like Tinder’s AI photo selector, which scans a user’s camera roll to pick profile pictures, and Hinge’s AI prompt editor.

Other competitors are experimenting too. Bumble has rolled out AI-powered tools, while its founder Whitney Wolfe Herd has floated the idea of personal “AI concierges” that could interact with each other to assess compatibility before users meet in real life.

With these new AI features, Meta is hoping Facebook Dating can carve out a stronger position in an already crowded market.
