Amazon has announced the rollout of Alexa+, its upgraded AI assistant, to the Amazon Music app for both iOS and Android devices. The feature is available across all Amazon Music subscription plans but currently limited to Alexa+ Early Access users.

To try Alexa+, users can tap the “a” button at the bottom right of the app and speak through their phone’s microphone.

Unlike the old version of Alexa, which focused on simple voice commands, Alexa+ enables natural, conversational interactions for a more personalized music experience. Listeners can now ask detailed questions, such as exploring an artist’s background or discovering the meaning behind specific songs.

Alexa+ can also build tailored playlists based on nuanced requests, for instance, “Make a playlist of 2010s hits that keep me moving fast, starting with a track from Nicki Minaj.” Users can even describe songs by lyrics or movie scenes to identify them.

According to Amazon, users testing Alexa+ are exploring music three times more and listening to 70% more tracks than before. The feature was first unveiled at Amazon’s hardware event in February and represents one of the company’s first consumer-facing AI agents, capable of performing actions such as booking reservations and ordering groceries.

This expansion follows Spotify’s integration of ChatGPT earlier this year, signaling Amazon’s move to strengthen its position in the AI-powered music space. Amazon Music has already rolled out features like AI-generated playlists, AI-assisted search, and Explore, which helps users learn more about artists and their creative process.

Alexa+ is currently live for select users and will expand to more listeners in the coming months.
