Anthropic experienced a service outage earlier this afternoon, temporarily impacting its APIs, Console, and Claude AI platform.

The disruption was first noted by users on GitHub and Hacker News at around 12:20 p.m. ET, with reports that Claude AI was down. Anthropic issued a status update just eight minutes later, confirming that its APIs, Console, and Claude were affected.

By press time, Anthropic said it had deployed several fixes and was monitoring system performance. A company spokesperson told TechCrunch: “We’re aware of a very brief outage of our API today shortly before 9:30 a.m. PT. Service was quickly restored.”

Although service was restored quickly, the incident drew lighthearted responses from the developer community. Some users joked about having to code without AI assistance, with one writing on Hacker News: “Nooooo I’m going to have to use my brain again and write 100% of my code like a caveman from December 2024.”
