YouTube is giving Shorts creators a powerful new AI toolkit. At its Made on YouTube live event on Tuesday, the platform introduced a custom version of Google’s text-to-video model Veo 3, along with a remixing tool and an Edit with AI feature designed to make video creation faster and more dynamic.

The new model, called Veo 3 Fast, delivers lower-latency results at 480p and, for the first time, supports sound. The rollout begins in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions to follow.

In addition, YouTube is bringing new Veo capabilities to Shorts:

  • Motion transfer: creators can animate still images by applying motion from a video, like making a photo subject dance.
  • Style filters: apply looks such as pop art or origami to videos.
  • Generative props & characters: add objects to clips using text prompts.

These capabilities will begin rolling out in the coming months.

Another highlight is the remixing tool, Speech to Song, which turns dialogue from eligible videos into soundtracks for Shorts. The feature uses Google’s Lyria 2 AI music model to create songs that can be customized with vibes like “chill,” “danceable,” or “fun.” YouTube says the tool will be tested soon, with U.S. creators gaining access in the coming weeks.

Creators will also benefit from Edit with AI, which turns raw footage into a polished first draft. The tool identifies and arranges the best moments, adds music, transitions, and even generates a reactive voice-over in English or Hindi. YouTube is currently testing the feature in Shorts and the YouTube Create app, with broader expansion planned in select markets.

“YouTube is where trends are born and inspiration flows,” said Dina Berrada, Director of Product, Shorts and Generative AI Creation. “Imagine hearing a line of dialogue that sparks an idea, and remixing it into a brand-new sound. That’s what these tools are designed to unlock.”
