Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched a new parental controls app called PlayStation Family, available now on iOS and Android. The app consolidates and expands Sony’s parental management tools, giving parents more visibility and control over their children’s gaming activity.
The PlayStation Family app allows parents to monitor what games their kids are playing in real time, set daily or weekly playtime limits, and approve or decline requests for extra gaming time. Parents also receive detailed activity reports showing how much time their child spends on the console and which titles are played the most.
To help ensure age-appropriate gaming, the app includes customizable content filters with presets tailored to different age groups. Parents can also fine-tune privacy and social settings, restrict communication, and manage access to in-game purchases. Spending activity is fully trackable, with the option to add funds, view balances, and set monthly spending limits.
By bringing these tools into one dedicated app, Sony aims to make parental oversight easier and more effective. The launch comes as the gaming industry faces heightened scrutiny over child safety, especially after platforms like Roblox were criticized for insufficient protections for younger users.
