Grammarly, best known for its English grammar and writing suggestions, is going multilingual. The company announced that its AI-powered writing assistance now supports Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, and Italian, alongside English.

Users writing in these languages will get paragraph-level rewrites for tone, style, and flow. Grammarly has also introduced in-line translation for 19 languages, letting users seamlessly switch between languages without leaving their document. The new features are available to both free and paid users.

“Our customers have been asking for multilingual support, and we’re meeting them where they are,” said Ailian Gan, Director of Product Management at Grammarly.

The update follows a pilot with 1 million users, which the company says delivered strong results. Grammarly, which reported 40 million daily active users in May, is likely aiming to broaden its user base with the new launch.

The expansion comes amid a wave of new features: last month Grammarly rolled out AI upgrades and a redesigned document UX following its acquisition of Coda. The company says multilingual support will extend to these AI features in the future.
