The all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup truck is officially dead. In its place, Stellantis is doubling down on an extended-range version of the truck, now renamed the Ram 1500 REV, formerly known as the Ramcharger.
On Friday, Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, announced it would no longer develop a fully battery-electric pickup, citing slowing demand in North America for full-size BEV trucks. “As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy,” the company said in a statement. “As part of this, Ram is renaming its REEV-powered pickup to Ram 1500 REV. This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability and payload performance.”
The strategy marks a dramatic shift. Instead of a pure EV, the Ram 1500 REV will combine a battery with a gas-powered generator, delivering an estimated 690 miles of range. While not a new concept, Stellantis sees this hybridized approach as more viable in today’s market, balancing performance with practicality.
The original all-electric Ram 1500 was a cornerstone of Stellantis’ plan to launch more than 25 new BEVs in the U.S. by the end of the decade. After a high-profile debut at CES 2023 and multiple showcases, the project soon faced delays. Stellantis initially targeted a 2024 production start, later shifting to 2025, and eventually postponing again into 2026 before scrapping the plan altogether.

For now, Stellantis is betting that truck buyers will favor long range and power over full electrification, a move that sets the Ram 1500 REV apart in the increasingly competitive pickup market.
