Venture capital firm Insight Partners has confirmed it has finished notifying individuals whose personal data was compromised in a cyberattack earlier this year. The breach, which took place in January, affected the firm’s limited partners, employees, and other connected parties.

In a statement released last week, the company said its review of the incident concluded in August. It described the attack as a “social engineering” operation but did not disclose further details.

According to earlier disclosures, the hackers stole financial and tax information, details about certain Insight funds and portfolio companies, as well as personal information belonging to current and former employees and investors. Limited partners, the typically private backers of venture capital funds, were also impacted.

Despite inquiries, Insight Partners has declined to reveal how many individuals were affected, whether it received an extortion demand, or if a ransom was paid.

The firm, which manages more than $90 billion in assets and has invested in major cybersecurity players such as Databricks and Wiz, is one of several venture capital firms to have suffered cyberattacks in recent years. Notably, Advanced Technology Ventures and Sequoia Capital both faced breaches in 2021 that exposed personal data belonging to their investors.
