AegisAI, a new cybersecurity startup founded by former Google security leaders, has secured $13 million in seed funding to combat email-based cyber threats using autonomous artificial intelligence agents.
The company was established by Cy Khormaee, former head of product at Google’s security division, and Ryan Luo, previously with Google’s Safe Browsing team. Their venture aims to address the escalating problem of AI-generated phishing attacks, which have become significantly more effective than traditional methods.

The Growing Threat Landscape Email remains the primary entry point for cyberattacks, with federal cybersecurity data showing over 90% of successful breaches originating from phishing emails. The situation has worsened with AI assistance – recent research indicates that machine-generated phishing messages achieve a 54% click-through rate compared to just 12% for human-created emails.
Innovative AI Defense SystemAegisAI’s solution deploys a network of specialized AI agents that work together to identify and neutralize threats in real-time. Unlike conventional email security systems that rely on predetermined rules, their approach uses multiple custom-trained language models, each designed to detect specific types of threats.
The system analyzes every component of incoming emails – including attachments, links, metadata, QR codes, and behavioral patterns – through collaborative reasoning between different AI agents. When the primary orchestrating agent identifies a potential threat, it activates specialized “buddy” agents that analyze the content and provide collective verdicts.
Market Position and ImplementationThe startup claims its technology reduces false positives by up to 90% compared to traditional solutions. Installation requires less than five minutes through API integration with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 platforms.
AegisAI has already begun operations with pilot customers across the US and Europe, securing three paying clients including data privacy firm Lokker and cryptocurrency platform Mesh Connect. The six-person team, based in San Francisco and New York, plans to use the funding to expand technical capabilities and develop market infrastructure.
The seed round was co-led by venture firms Accel and Foundation Capital, positioning the startup to compete in the rapidly evolving email security market as AI threats continue to advance.
