With friendship apps gaining momentum, Bumble announced Wednesday the relaunch of its BFF app, designed to help people grow their social circles in new ways.

The updated app goes beyond one-on-one matching and introduces a new Groups tab, where users can join chat rooms, plan hangouts, and track events with an in-app calendar. Bumble says the feature will support everything from small friend groups to communities of thousands.

The BFF app is now built on Geneva, the community platform Bumble acquired last year. As part of the update, Geneva will be shutting down, but current Geneva users won’t lose anything, as their groups and messages will automatically transfer to BFF.

While private one-on-one matching and swiping remain part of the app, the new focus is squarely on groups and communities. Users can already create or join groups, though a group discovery feature won’t roll out until February 2026.

The relaunch comes as apps like Clockout, Clyx, Les Amís, Timeleft, and 222 gain traction in the “friendship app” space. Bumble, which has been in the market longer, is hoping this shift toward community features will help it stay ahead.

The timing also reflects changes in how young people socialize. Bumble reports that 47% of young adults want more friends to do activities with, while many also want platforms that help them build local communities.

The update arrives as Bumble faces financial pressure. In Q2 2025, the company’s revenue fell 7.6% year-over-year, from $268.6 million to $248.2 million. Still, the company says building safe, meaningful friendships is a long-term priority.
