Design and engineering teams often struggle to stay aligned on what to build and how to build it  especially in large organizations juggling multiple brands and websites. Miscommunication, scattered data, and outdated documentation can easily derail projects.

That’s where Knapsack comes in. The startup offers a collaboration platform designed to help enterprises streamline communication between designers, product managers, and engineers. It connects with tools like Figma and Git to automatically sync design changes with code and documentation, ensuring that every product stays consistent with brand standards.

On Thursday, Knapsack announced a $10 million Series A funding round, bringing its total raised to $20.8 million. The round was led by Builders VC with participation from Crosslink Capital, Epic Ventures, Mana Venture, and Lorimer Ventures. Past investors include Salesforce Ventures, Slack Fund, and Gradient Ventures.

The company is also launching AI-powered capabilities, including an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, an open-source standard from Anthropic that helps AI models generate more contextually relevant responses. This feature allows teams to create AI agents that follow their brand’s guidelines using models like ChatGPT and Gemini.

A new “ingestion engine” is also in development to simplify the process of building systems of record, turning what used to take months into just days. According to CEO Chris Strahl, one pharmaceutical client reduced its website launch timeline from 15 months to just 2–3 months using Knapsack.

Later this year, Knapsack plans to roll out a feature that helps teams quickly explore user interfaces and generate design ideas with guided prompts.

Founded in 2022, Knapsack serves several Fortune 1000 companies and currently employs about 30 people, with plans to expand its team by 14.

Strahl envisions Knapsack as the foundation for a future where brands express themselves through agentic AI systems. “You can imagine a world where your AI agent understands your preferences and delivers personalized product experiences,” he said. “That experience should come from Knapsack.”
