Meta announced on Tuesday a major update to the Facebook algorithm, aimed at showing users more personalized Reels videos based on their preferences. The update introduces several new features, including AI-powered search suggestions, friend bubbles, and enhanced content controls.
With this update, Facebook users can now easily indicate when they’re “Not Interested” in certain Reels or flag unwanted comments, helping the recommendation system adjust future suggestions accordingly.
The platform has also improved the “Save” feature, making it simpler for users to collect and organize their favorite Reels and posts in one place.
Meta says the move is part of an effort to reduce frustration from users who have complained about seeing scammy, repetitive, or AI-generated low-quality videos. The company recently launched a new short-form video feed called “Vibes” within the Meta AI app, which features only AI-generated content.
Additionally, Facebook’s updated algorithm will now prioritize newer Reels, with users seeing 50% more videos uploaded on the same day they’re scrolling.
The update also introduces AI-powered search suggestions, helping users discover related content through recommended queries, similar to the gray suggestions seen on TikTok videos.

Lastly, new friend bubbles will appear on both Reels and the main feed, showing which posts a user’s friends have liked. Tapping on a friend’s bubble will open a private chat, encouraging more personal interaction within the app.
