Adobe is expanding the capabilities of its AI video-generation app, Firefly, with a powerful new video editor that allows users to make precise, prompt-based edits instead of regenerating entire clips.
Until now, Firefly only supported full video generation from text prompts, meaning any unwanted element required recreating the entire video. With the new editor, users can now modify specific elements, such as colors, objects, camera angles, and motion, using simple text instructions. Adobe has also introduced a timeline view, making it easier to fine-tune frames, sounds, and other video characteristics.
Adobe first revealed the editor in a private beta in October. This week, the company confirmed it is now rolling out to all Firefly users.

Using Runway’s Aleph model, Firefly users can issue detailed instructions like “Change the sky to overcast and lower the contrast” or “Zoom in slightly on the main subject.” Meanwhile, Adobe’s in-house Firefly Video model now allows creators to upload a starting frame and a reference video to replicate specific camera movements or angles.
The update also adds new third-party models. Users can now access Topaz Labs’ Astra model to upscale videos to 1080p or 4K, while Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 image-generation model is joining Firefly as well. Adobe is also introducing a collaborative boards feature to support team-based creative workflows.
According to Adobe, FLUX.2 will be available immediately across Firefly platforms, while Adobe Express users will gain access to the model starting in January.
As competition in AI image and video generation intensifies, Adobe is pushing to increase engagement with Firefly. To encourage usage, subscribers on Firefly Pro, Firefly Premium, and the 7,000- and 50,000-credit plans will receive unlimited generations from all image models and Adobe’s Firefly Video model through January 15.

The update caps a busy year for Adobe’s Firefly ecosystem. In February, the company introduced tiered subscriptions for AI generation, followed by a redesigned Firefly web app and mobile apps later in the year. Adobe has also steadily expanded Firefly’s support for third-party AI models, positioning it as a central hub for generative creative tools.
